This vintage is sourced 100% from Stonetree Vineyard (Wahluke Slope). Coyote Canyon Vineyard fruit is usually included in this wine. However, there was a severe freeze event during the early winter of 2010 that damaged the vines, and no fruit was produced in 2011.


7.62 tons of Primitivo grapes were hand-picked on October 8 and promptly delivered to the winery. The fruit was then sorted by hand, de-stemmed, and placed into six 1.5-ton open-top fermenters.


After a passive soak, the grapes were inoculated with BRL 97 yeast on October 14. The resulting cap was punched down by hand on an as-needed basis (at least once per day) until fermentation proceeds to dryness. On October 31, free run wine was placed directly into barrels and the remaining skins pressed; press wine was later added to the tank of free run. Total skin contact time was 22 days.

Barrel Aging

The wine was put into a mix of French and Hungarian oak barrels on November 4. No new barrels were used; all barrels had previously been used 2–8 vintages. The blended wine was bottled on August 10, 2012.
